Blu Crusader - Flash Game


Blu Crusader


So we finally made it to the end we did a few tweaks to it and sorted out the bugs but overall it was a success. We named it Blu Crusader we had a lot of obstacles but we came through in the end.

After doing some research on Star Screens from different games such as Bomberman and Sonic the hedgehog i saw how the creators used a Font design that would stick out. So i looked at how i should make the Font stick out i went through different Font Websites such as DAFONT.com and 1001FREEFONTS.com then i came across a called "Earwig Factory" which would later become our main font for the Interface and which i used for Energy drink name..



 

Later did some changes to the interface making it look like our Super Hero is going to save the people from the burning city.

So i took out the rainbow gave the super hero his trusty Boom Pow also giving him his logo on his back.



Heres Prototype interface. We are still working on a title any ideas??? ^_^

Here the Drinks Machine and Energy drink that will be in our game so the player can top up their Energy. We named it Boom Pow!! As it gives the Hero a Burst of Energy..

The Victims would come out of the windows waving their arms and holding a Help sign.


























The designs were created by Caroline.


Three important steps of the windows sprite sheet animation:

1. Before explosion
2. Window is broken. Smoke comes out.
3. Building continues to smoke.




We thought about having three levels to the game the 1st would be in China Town the 2nd would be the City and 3rd would b the Suburb. An example of what they might look like.










The highlighted parts (in red) or the windows will be the areas where the people will pop out and require you to save them.
note: notice all the area are 1st floor or higher, which means the super man will need to use more energy drink in order to reach up there, this will be done by holding down the button for longer.
The character cannot go beyond the pillar/archway which is slightly faded.

After getting feedback, we have decided to change the perspective of the game. It is not so much top down view now but more from jus behind the super hero, this view enables the player to see more of what is happening in the game. As you can see the character goes smaller as he goes further ahead, thus giving the illusion of dimension.
Trying to find the right style:

Here are some slightly different variations of styles to use in flash.
FIG1 is done entirely in Photoshop then transferred into flash.
FIG2 has the wall from Photoshop and window from flash.
FIG3 shows the difference/contrast of 2 different walls when transferred to Flash.
FIG4 has a more comic/cartoon feel to it, the other 1's has a more realistic feel to it.

Goal 

Saving people from chaotic city (London).

Challenges 
  • More obstacles each sub area;
  • Timing your powers up.
Objectives
  • Saving people;
  • Get pass each sub-areas;
  • Avoid obstacles: Barriers, cars, trash cans;
  • You only have two drinks. One to run faster, the other one to fly and rescue victims from high/burning structures;
  • Has to save a certain amount of people before the end of the stage/district.
Rules
  • If you press the "a" key, then the characters goes left;
  • If you press the "d" keys, then the characters goes right;
  • If you press the space key, then the characters jump;
  • If you press the right arrow key, then you use the flying drink;
  • If you press the left arrow key, then you use the boost drink;
  • If you get the flying drink, then you will be able to fly for 3 seconds to rescue people;
  • If 3 seconds have passed after starting the fly animation, then stop flying;
  • If you get the boost drink, you will be able to run faster for 5 seconds and play boost animation;
  • If 5 seconds have passed after starting the boost animation, then stop the boost.
  • If the character rescue a person in need, then rescue count +1;
  • If you avoid obstacles and enemies, then you win and play the win animation;
  • If you hit obstacles as cars, they stop you and you need to go around them;
  • If you hit obstacles as barriers or trashcans, they slow you down;
